Delta, OH – The Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) awarded its annual Don B. Daily
Achievement in Safety award for 2017 to three recipients during their Fall Safety Committee & Plant Operations Meeting in Pittsburgh, PA on October 5. SMA’s highest safety award recognizes the safety efforts of individuals and companies in the North American EAF steel industry. It was established by SMA in 2009 in honor of Don B. Peter Ossmann, Health & Emergency Response Coordinator at North Star BlueScope Steel LLC, was one of the 2017 recipients. Ossmann was selected for his engagement and outreach with local first responders in Northwest Ohio.
“It’s an honor to receive this prestigious award,” said Ossmann. “I appreciate working for a company like North Star BlueScope Steel that understands the value of strong community partnerships with our local first responders to build disaster resilient communities.”
“His dedication to safety extends beyond the job,” said Phillip K Bell, President of SMA. “His work to ensure his community and emergency response organizations are knowledgeable and well-trained is commendable.”
